    Allah says in the Qur'an:

And remember [O Children of Israel] when We took your covenant, [saying to you]: "Do not shed each other's blood nor evict one another from your homes." Then you agreed to this while you were witnessing.

    -Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 84

And now, you are the [same ones who are] killing one another and evicting a group of your people from their homes, cooperating against them in sin and aggression. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, although their eviction was forbidden to you in the first place. So do you believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in part? Then what is the recompense for those who do that among you except disgrace in worldly life; and on the Day of Resurrection they will be sent back to the severest of punishment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

    -Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 85

    It is said:

"Blindly following ancient customs and traditions doesn’t mean that the dead are alive, but that the living are dead."

    ~

We should raise a generation of thinkers, not parrots.

Don't be a sheep, don't be on auto-pilot, going along with everything you hear, without thinking.

    The Qur'an says:

"Do not follow blindly what you do not know to be true: ears, eyes, and heart, you will be questioned about all these." [17:36]

If your study does not transform your character - you've missed the mark. Anybody, can read a book, internalize ideas, and debate philosophical concepts - that is not impressive.

It is like fasting; abandoning food and drink for a few hours is not impressive - non-muslims do that all the time for the sake of losing belly fat.

The outward act is not the goal, the point is to incite a transmutation of the soul and mold the character traits it expresses. What is impressive is to let a Prophetic sentence point you towards ego transcendence and transform it into repentence.

As for one who has mastered an outward science and/or ritual but still proudly carries unprophetic traits - then...

    ~

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever does not give up false statements, evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink."

    [Sahih al-Bukhari 6057]

The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes of books. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Quran 62:5]

    Al-Qurtubi writes:

Abu 'Aaliyah disliked people saying: "a small Surah" or "a big Surah", of the Qur'an.
He used to say: "The entire Qur'an is great/big."

    The importance of education:

The first thing Allah created: Pen [
The first revelation to our Prophet: Read [
There is an entire Chapter in the Qur'an, called: Chapter of the Pen [
God swears in the Qur’an [68:1] by the: Pen

One of our biggest problem today is:

The people who study worldly sciences look down on religious studies.
And the people who study religious knowledge look down on worldly sciences.

We should encourage & master both.
