The Rent Women Pay
The day before yesterday
When I was born
Full of light and dreams to wander
I passed through time and space
I am unaware
Yesterday when I grew up
You said my light burned too bright
'Darling, such light belongs only to some'
You pass me by
I am aware
Today when I am grown
Polished under pressure
You stop and stare
I am worthy of the light
But that light has been quenched
I am empty
Tomorrow when the rent is due
Will I pay in coal or diamonds
While I wander around in the dark
Searching for a way back
To that day before yesterday
I am paying the price
