Candidate for the organization of the World Cup 2026, Morocco made this Tuesday morning its first media release, via its bid committee, chaired by Moulay Hafid El Alamy. The Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy was accompanied by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the FRMF and Rachid Talbi Alami, Minister of Youth and Sports

The strong men of the 2026 World Cup candidacy expressed themselves on the real chances of Morocco to shelter the global event. According to Moulay Hafid El Alamy, the Kingdom has every chance to win against the American trio, composed of the US of Canada and Mexico, first of all, because of its stability and its geographical location, which will allow a certain ease of movement between cities, unlike the US application that will sometimes require 16 hours of flights between games. Not to mention the time zone, which is a considerable asset for Morocco, given its proximity to most countries qualified in the world.

Regarding the costs, the minister estimated that the preparation of the candidacy of Morocco will require an amount around 130 million dh (as was the case for the old applications).

Stressing that Morocco will not present a candidate for appearances, El Alamy assured that the Kingdom will be ready to host the competition with infrastructure to the height, saying that the country already has stages that could host large-scale matches.

For his part, Fouzi Lekjaa reiterated the importance of Morocco's relationship with the 53 other African federations that will play a crucial role in his candidacy, knowing that the Kingdom will need 104 votes to get the organization of the World Cup 2026.

The president of the FRMF did not fail to recall that the candidacy of Morocco is above all an African candidacy. The black continent has been entitled to only one organization in its history, and a second in 2026 will certainly not be too much, given the considerable impact of African football in the world.
