Imaam Al-Awzaa’ee’s Advice On Taking Narrations Over Opinions:


Imaam Al-Awzaa’ee (d. 157) said:

“Adhere to the narrations from those who have preceded,
even if the people reject you, and beware of the opinions of men,
even if they beautify it with speech.
So indeed the afair will become clear (for others),
while you are upon a straight path regarding it!”

[Bayhaqee in Al-Madkhal (no. 233) with an authentic chain of narrators].

He also said:


“So make yourself patient upon the Sunnah, stop where the people stopped, speak with what they spoke with, and refrain from what they refrained from. And follow the path of your Righteous Predecessors (Salafus Saaliheen) for verily, sufficient for you is that which was sufficient for them!”

Situation of the Ummah:


"When the Glorious Qur'an and the Sunnah are abandoned, because it is thought that they are insufficient; and when human opinions, analogy, discretion, and the words of scholars are sought, people's natures are corrupted, their hearts become dark, their understandings become confused, and their minds become distorted. All the previously mentioned matters had a great impact on their lives to the extent that the young and the old lived under these circumstances, thinking them to be allowed. Alternative conditions prevailed, in which innovated matters replaced Prophetic traditions, inclination replaced wisdom, vain desires replaced reason, doing astray replaced guidance, the wrong replaced the good, ignorance replaced knowledge, hypocrisy replaced devotion, the unlawful replaced the lawful, lying substituted truthfullness, flattery substituted advice, and injustice replaced justice, thus these evils reigned supreme, and their holders became privileged, despite the prevalence of their opposite in the past, where their holders were the privileged ones. If you see the superiority of such evils, and their slogans are set up where their armies are invading, surely the bottom of the earth would be much desirable than it's surface, the peaks of mountains would be more preferable than the plains, and accompanying beasts would be better than accompanying people!"

De grootste beloning komt van de grootste beproeving:

“De grootste beloning komt van de grootste beproeving. Wanneer Allah van mensen houdt, test Hij hen en eenieder die het accepteert, verwerft de tevredenheid van Allah en eenieder die klaagt, verdient Zijn Woede!”

Deze hadith van de Profeet (vrede en zegeningen zij met hem) is overgeleverd door Tirmidhi en door Ibn Maadjah en is sahih verklaard door Sheikh Al-Albaanie (rahimuhu Allah).

Beproevingen om in rang verheven te worden:

“Het kan zijn dat iemand een verheven rang heeft bij Allah en dat hij daar niet komt door middel van zijn daden, waarop Allah hem beproeft met zaken die hij niet graag heeft, zodat Hij Zijn dienaar (hiermee) deze rang laat bereiken!”

Abu Hurayrah (moge Allah tevreden met hem zijn) heeft deze woorden overgeleverd van de Profeet (vrede en zegeningen zij met hem). Het staat vermeld in Abu Dawud en het is sahih.


Geduldig blijven met beproevingen:

Ibn Abbas zei: “Zal ik een vrouw laten zien die tot de bewoners van het Paradijs behoort?” Ik (de overleveraar) zei: “Ja.” Hij zei: “Deze zwarte vrouw kwam bij de Profeet en zei: “Ik krijg epileptische aanvallen en mijn lichaam raakt dan onbedekt. Alstublieft, roep Allah voor mij aan.” De Profeet zei: “Als je wenst, blijf geduldig en je zal het Paradijs binnengaan. En als je wenst, zal ik Allah aanroepen om je te genezen.” Zij zei: “Ik zal geduldig blijven,” en voegde daar aan toe, “maar ik raak onbedekt, dus alstublieft roep Allah voor mij aan dat ik niet onbedekt raak!” Dus riep hij Allah voor haar aan.”

Deze hadith is overgeleverd van Ata ibn Abi Rabah (moge Allah tevreden met hem zijn) van Ibn Abbas (moge Allah tevreden met hem zijn) van de Profeet (vrede en zegeningen zij met hem). De hadith staat vermeld in Sahih Bukharie.

Shaykh-ul-Islam ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:

“It is not for anyone to raise some person up, and call the Ummah to follow his path, treating all of those who follow him as allies, and all of those who do not as enemies, if that person is other than the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallaam). Likewise, it is not for anyone to raise up for (the Ummah) some opinion or quote from the words of some person, and treat all those who agree with it as allies, and all of those who do not agree with it as enemies, if those words are not from the speech of Allaah (subhanahu `wa ‘taala), or from the speech of His Messenger, or from ( ijma) those matters that the entire Ummah has agreed upon. Rather, this is from the behavior of the people of bid’ah who put up some person or some opinion and divide the Ummah with it. They ally themselves to those who agree, while treating as enemies all who do not!”

Het is voor een vrouw niet toegestaan om zichzelf toe te schrijven aan de familie van haar echtgenoot. Zo zegt de Profeet (vrede zij met hem) in een correcte overlevering: “Degene die zichzelf opzettelijk de bloedverwantschap van een ander toeschrijft dan die van zijn vader, begaat ongeloof. En degene die beweert te zijn wie hij niet is, mag zich gereedmaken voor een plaats in het Hellevuur!” (al-Boekhaari)

Tevens heeft hij (vrede zij met hem) gezegd: “Moge de Vloek van Allah, de engelen en de algehele mensheid rusten op degene die zich toeschrijft aan een ander dan zijn eigen vader!” (Ibn Maadjah en correct bevonden door Sheikh al-Albaani)

Ibn Mas'ud [Radhiya Allahu ‘anhu] heeft gezegd: “Wees op jullie hoede voor het overbodige in jullie taalgebruik. Voor de mens volstaat het aantal woorden dat hem laat bereiken wat hij nodig heeft.”

Hij zei ook:

“Degene die de grootste zonden zullen dragen op de Dag van de Opstanding zijn zij die onbezonnen verkeerde dingen hebben gezegd!” [Overgeleverd door At-Tabarani, Al-Hafez Al-'Iraqi heeft gezegd dat haar keten authentiek is, zie Al-Ihya nr. 1552]
