UNAF club competitions
The draws for the North Africa football Union (UNAF) club competitions Champions cup and Cup winner’s cup have been made. The pairings were made Sunday in Tunis under the watchful eyes of Mohamed Raouraoua, president of UNAF,Slim Aloulou, Executive memeber of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Saïd Belkhayat,CAF representative as well as other representatives of UNAF member countries and clubs involved in the competitions.
Mohamed Raouaraoua recalled during the event that UNAF has adopted an ambitious programme for Olympic teams and female squads for the 2009-2010 football season, following an executive committee meeting and general assembly that held in Djerba on Friday. In this regard Tunisia shall host the Olympic tournament from January 1st to 10th 2010, while Algeria shall from March 12-22 host the Under 17 competition. Libya will do same for the Under 19 selections from March 18 to 28.
The UNAF female football competition will hold as from January 24 to 31 in Egypt while the female club championship shall take place in July 2010.
UNAF president reiterated his resolve to see all the regional competitions take place so as to better prepare clubs and teams from the North African Region for continental and international assignments.
Following the draws, Esperance sportive of Tunis, Tunisian representatives for the UNAF Champions Cup will play the winner of the match Al-Ittihad (Libye)-Al Ismaily (Egypte) counting for the preliminary rounds.
The away leg match shall take place on october 15 2009 in El Menzah and the return game will hold on the 24th november in Tripoli or Ismailya.
The second semi final will pit Raja Casablanca (Morocco) against ES Sétif (Algeria). The away leg takes place on October 27 in Casablanca and the return on November 24 in Setif.
In case of qualification for the finals, Esperance will play the away leg scheduled for the 10, 11, 12 or 13 December away, and the return game in Tunis either on the 24, 25, 26 or 27 of same month.
In the Cup winner’s cup, CS Sfaxien will meet Algerian club Chabab Belouizdad in the semi finals scheduled for october 27 octobre in Algiers. The return leg will take place on November 22 in Sfax.
The first semi final of the competition will see Morocco’s FAR Rabat play the winner of the preliminary match opposing Zamalek of Egypte/Tersana of Libya. In case of qualification for the finals, CS Sfaxien shall play the first match way against the winner of the first semi final clash. The return leg will hold in Sfax. It should be recalled that the first edition of the UNAF football competitions were won by Club Africain and Esperance Sportive of Tunis respectively.
