Dr. Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh, Iranian journalist and civil society activist in women's rights and NGO issues, was arrested on November 1. Nobody has any news about her. She was arrested by the order of Judge Mortazavi without any prior notice. Mortazavi is the same person who interrogated Iranian-Canadian photographer Zahra Kazemi, who allegedly was killed while in custody last year.
Abbasgholizadeh's family has met with Dr. Seifzadeh, attorney at law and member of human rights commission of the Iranian Bar Association, and the family has hired him to represent Ms. Abbasgholizadeh. He has been requested to initiate preliminary legal proceedings regarding her case. During a meeting with several members of the Center for Human Rights Defenders, her family has also asked the Center to take necessary action in following up Ms. Abbasgholizadeh's case.
Ms. Abbasgholizadeh is the head of Iranian NGO's Training Center. It seems that she is arrested due to a new trend from Iranian hard-liners to put pressure on Iranian NGOs, specially women NGOs.
