Amsterdam Mayor starts visit to Morocco :
Job Cohen, Amsterdam Mayor, leading a delegation, has started a visit, to Morocco on Sept. 11-18.
Cohen's delegation is made up of Fouad Sidali, spokesperson of Amsterdam District Council, the President of the Association Moroccan Women in Holland, an official in charge of relation between Amsterdam and Morocco, as well as a number of high-ranking Official, reported Morocco Times' correspondent in Amsterdam, Jamal Dine Elarif.
Fouad Sidali told Morocco times that Cohen wants to better know Morocco, whose decedents account for 65,000 of Amsterdam inhabitants.
Job Cohen will visit a number of cities, including Larache, Rabat, Casablanca, Al Hoceima, Nador, Berkan and Oujda.
On Sept. 12 in Rabat, he will meet with Holland's Ambassador to Morocco, and the Minister-Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Charge of Moroccans Living Abroad, Nouzha Chekrouni, said Sidali. They will oversee an infrastructure project, to which Amsterdam have contributed.
Cohen's delegation, added Sidali, will visit and inaugurate a number of projects funded by Amsterdam.
They will also visit a Jewish museum, a feminist association project, and a charity, hosting deserted children, as the Dutch capital intends to grant donations to organizations working in the humanitarian realm.
Among the priorities of Cohen is the reconstruction of Al Hoceima, which was hit by a devastating earthquake on Feb. 24, 2004.
In Al hoceima, he will inaugurate a center for the Dutch Red Cross, which will be in charge of training members of the Moroccan Red Crescent.
This visit comes to back up the huge efforts made by the spokesperson of Amsterdam District Council and the official in charge of relation between Amsterdam and Morocco.
It is part of a political programme set up by Amsterdam authorities to establish communication and cooperation relations with all the countries, which have expatriates in Amsterdam, like Morocco and Turkey.
