Once when ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab was circumambulating the Ka’bah, and ‘Alee was circumambulating with him, a man came to ‘Umar and said:
“O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, settle the score for me with ‘Alee ibn Abee Taalib.”
He said:
“What is the issue?”
He said:
“He slapped me on the eye.”
‘Umar stopped and waited until ‘Alee caught up with him, then he said:
“Did you slap this man on the eye, O Abul-Hasan?”
He said:
“Yes, O Ameer al-Mu’mineen.”
He said:
“Why?”
He said:
“Because I saw him staring at Muslim women during tawaaf.”
‘Umar said:
“Well done, O Abul-Hasan!”
