On August 21st 1963, King Mohammed VI of Morocco was born as the oldest son of the late King Hassan and his second wife, Lalla Latifa Hammou.

#1 — A case of mistaken identity
It almost turned ugly when the Spanish civil guards mistook King Mohammed for a people smuggler while on his yacht in 2014. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo the King angrily shouted “Do you know who I am?” when the civil guard attempted to board the yacht.
After a phone call to King Felipe, an official apology was issued through the Spanish royal household. Despite the rather unfortunate incident, the Spanish and Moroccan Kings are reportedly still on good terms.
#2 — The King of Facebook
Just like most other royal families King Mohammed has an official Facebook page. But while other popular royal families such as the British Monarchy has a little more than two million fans the Moroccan King has over three million and growing. And mind you, about twice as many people live in the UK as in Morocco.
#3 — The reformist friendly King
Unlike many of the European royals, King Mohammed has political power. Since his ascension to the throne in 1999 after his father’s death, the King has accomplished a number of reforms, including giving women more rights and making sure the King of Morocco is no longer considered sacred or holy.
#4 — Mohammed the banker
Though he is first and foremost King of Morocco, Mohammed is also a leading banker and businessman thus making him and his family quite wealthy. The financial magazine Forbes estimated him to be worth around $2, 5 billion in 2009.
#5 — The red haired beauty by his side
When King Mohammed married Lalla Salma in 2001, he did something no Moroccan King had ever done before — he announced her name and the fact that he was to get married. In addition, he even published a photo of his bride-to-be. Up until then the royal weddings were kept secret and the brides hidden from the public eye.
