Questioner:Some blame and criticize the ones who call themselves Salafiyoon or Athariyoon. So is this blame and criticism appropriate? and is ascribing yourself to the Salafis, the Atharis and the Jaamis permissible or are these just sects from among the sects?

Shaykh al-Fawzaan:xJahmiyyah?

Questioner : No, May Allaah give you all good, the question states; is ascribing oneself to Salafiyyah, Athariyyah and Jaamiyyah permissible or are these sects like the rest of the sects?

Shaykh al-Fawzaan:xJahmiyyah? You mean Jahmiyyah?

Questioner:xJaamiyyah!

Shaykh al-Fawzaan: I don't know of any Jaamiyyah. There is no such group. This is a nickname that some have made up, calling others with it. There is no foundation for it. As soon as someone disagrees with them they call them with all types of names and with abusive titles. Leave these things! As for ascribing oneself to Salafiyyah, this is beautiful but you must know what Salafiyyah is. Now let us return back to your question. You must follow the way of the Salaf in all that is good. You must learn and get to know the manhaj of the Salaf in order to follow it. There is no need to say "I am Salafi" giving praise and recommending yourself, no. Hold on to that which the Salaf were upon, and do not use it to give praise and recommendations to yourself.x
