27 June, the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander attended the celebration of the 11th National Day of Veterans in The Hague. Day of Veterans in the Netherlands – is a day of gratitude more than 100,000 veterans, most of whom are veterans of World Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld War II, as well as the younger generation, who participated in the peacekeeping operations in Lebanon, Cambodia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Mali. This date was chosen in honor of Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld born 29 June 1911. He took part in World War II. In 1944, Bernard became the commander of the Dutch armed forces and took an active part in the fight against the troops of the Reich on the allied side. 5 May 1945 in the city of Waheningen it in place with the allies accepted the surrender of German troops who were on the territory of the Netherlands. Despite the fact that Bernard was born in Germany, he refused to speak with the defeated German and during the adoption of the capitulation spoke only in Dutch. On Day of Veterans in The Hague held a parade of veterans, which involved more than three thousand people, and the number of spectators of the tens of thousands.
