Imaam Muhammad Naasirud-Deen Al-Albaanee rahimahul-llah said in Ahkaamul-Janaa’iz p222:
The supporters of Sunnah do not blind follow a particular man in the religion of Allaah like those do [he is referring to innovators]. They neither give precedence to a statement of a scholar over the truth that became manifest to them, no matter how good they think of his knowledge and righteousness [i.e. the scholar].
Rather, they view the statement and not who said it, and they view the proof and not blind following, while bearing in mind the statement of Imaam of Daarul-Hijrah: “Everyone from us has been rebutted and had rebutted except the dweller of his grave [i.e. the Prophet peace is upon him]”, and he [Imaam Maalik] said: “Everyone’s speech can either be taken or abandoned except the dweller of this grave”.
