Assalamu alikum,

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, (rahimahullaah) 'Zad al-Ma'ad'; 2/22-26:

Being Generous: A Source of Relaxation:

“…The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) was the most generous person in giving away what he owned, and he would never look at something as being either too big or too insignificant to give up for the sake of Allah.

Nobody would ask him for anything except that he gave it to them, regardless of how big or small it was. He gave things away in a way that made it seem that he never feared poverty, and generosity and charity were the most beloved things to him. His happiness and joy in giving something away was more than that felt by those who would accept his gifts. He was the most generous person, and his generosity was like the blowing wind.

If a person in need would approach him, he would always prefer that person to himself. This was sometimes in the form of food, and was sometimes in the form of clothing.

He would have variety in terms of how he would give things away:

Sometimes, he would give it as a small gift, sometimes as charity, and sometimes as a large gift.

He would sometimes buy something from someone then give him back the product itself that he had just paid for, such as what he did with the camel he bought from Jabir.

Sometimes, he would take a loan and then pay back more than he borrowed, or would give back something better or more plentiful than he borrowed.

Sometimes, he would buy something and pay more than its value for it.

He would accept a gift and then repay it with a gift many times more valuable.

This was all done out of his generosity and desire to practice as many types of charity and good as possible.

His charity was in what he possessed, his personality, and his words. He would give whatever he had and command others to give charity and encourage them in this and call to it through his actions and words.

If he saw a stingy person, his mere personality would force that person into being generous and charitable. Whoever interacted with him and accompanied him and observed his lifestyle had no choice but to also be generous and freely giving.

His lifestyle was one of kindness, charity, and goodness. This is why he was the most relaxed of people and the purest and softest of them in heart. Charity and kindness have an amazing effect in bringing about relaxation.

…Kindness to people and helping them through your money, influence, physical help, and other types of kindness is a means of relaxation. The generous and kind person is much more relaxed and purer and softer in heart, while the stingy person who displays no kindness has the tightest chest, the most depressed life, and the most worries and stress.

And the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) gave an example in the ‘Sahih’ regarding the generous and stingy. He likened them to two men wearing metal armor. Whenever the generous person intends to give something in charity, his armor widens and relaxes until it drags and covers his feet. Whenever the stingy person intends to give charity, every ring of his armor stays in place and doesn’t widen or relax at all. So, this is like the relaxation that the charitable believer feels compared to the tightness that the stingy person feels…”

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, (rahimahullaah) 'Zad al-Ma'ad'; 2/22-26.

Wassalaam.

Ali bin Talib (radiallaahu anhu) said, “I advise you with five…:

None of you should hope except from His Lord and none of you should fear except his sin, and none should be shy (when face with a question) to reply humbly with “I do not know”. And none should hesitate to acquaint themselves with the matter that they are ignorant about. One should know that Patience to Eeman is like the head to a body: if the head is cut off, the body perishes as well. Also whoever desires richness without having wealth and abundance and without having a large clan, then let him turn from the depravity of sin to the honor of serving Allaah.”

Hasan said, “Whoever fears Allaah, He will make all things fear him. And whoever fears people, Allaah will make him fear everything.”

Abundant Silence and Speak Wisely:

From the morals and manners of the Salaf was that they would practice abundant silence and spoke with wisdom making things easy for the students.

As-Shafi’ee (rahimahullaah) said, “Whoever spreads gossip for you spreads gossip against you. Whoever relates tales to you will tell tales about you. Whoever when you please him says about you what is not in you, when you anger him will say about you what is not in you.”

Realize this brother and clear your inner self from the love of this world and running after it. Increase in the remembrance of Allaah the Most High. When the purification of your inside is completed then Allaah the Most High will make you speak with wisdom and you will become the wise man of your time.

`Abdullah ibn `Abbas verhaalt dat de Boodschapper van Allah s.a.w.s. de verklaring van zijn Gezegende en verhevene Heer aanhaalde ;

Ultimate humility:

Hassan Al-Basree said:

“I met some people who could not rejoice at the splendor of life when it came to them, nor dedicate their attention to any part of it that went away from them. This life was as worthless in their eyes as dust. One of them lived for fifty or sixty years during which he only owned the clothes that he wore, did not have a barrier between his body and the floor when he slept, and did not ask his family to cook a dish of food for him. When night came, they would be standing and then laying their foreheads on the floor (in Sujuud), with tears running down their cheeks. They begged their Lord to free their necks (from the Fire). Whenever they performed a good deed, they appreciated Allaah for it and invoked Him to accept it. Whenever they committed an error, they felt sad and begged Allaah to forgive it for them, may Allaah’s mercy and pleasure be upon them. By Allaah! They were not saved from the repercussions and evil consequences of sins, except through Allaah’s forgiveness.”

Al-Ihyaa, vol.4, p239.

“I worshipped Allaah for fifty years…”

Ahmad bin Harb said:

“I worshipped Allaah for fifty years, but tasted the delight of worship only after I abandoned three things:

I discarded seeking people’s pleasure, and thus was able to speak the truth. I abandoned associating with the wicked, and thus tasted the delight of accompanying the righteous. I ignored the delights of this world, and thus tasted the delight of the Hereafter.”

As-Siyar, vol. 11, p. 34.

Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H rahimahullaah) says: "There is no blame on the one who manifests/proclaims the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf, who attaches himself to it and refers to it. Rather, it is obligatory to accept that from him by unanimous agreement (Ittifaaq), because the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf is nothing but the Truth (Haqq)." [From Majmoo al-Fataawaa, 4:149.].

Imaam adh-Dhahabee (d.748H rahimahullaah) - said: "It is authentically related from ad-Daaraqutnee that he said: There is nothing more despised by me than 'ilm al-kalaam (innovated speech and rhetorics). I say: No person should ever enter into 'ilm al-kalaam, nor argumentation. Rather, he should be a follower of the Salaf." [Siyar 16/457].

Iemaam Ibn al-Djawzi (o. 597H) rahiemehoellaah zei: `Abdoel-Wafaa `Alie Ibn `Aqiel al-Faqieh zei: Onze shaych, Aboel-Fadl al-Hamdaanie zei:

[Saheeh hadeeth.

(Hadith Sahih. al-Bukhari, Muslim)
