Arsenal
Wojciech Szczesny - 7
We don't usually associate the word "reliable" with any goalkeeper from Arsenal, but he might just convince Arsene Wenger to keep the faith in him instead of spending on another.
Bacary Sagna - 6.5
He must have watched videos of his defending at the break as he returned on the pitch a different man, dealing with the threat of Armero very well. His runs forward and the crosses he put in were also beneficial to the team.
Thomas Vermaelen - 8
Was sorely missed after missing out of the majority of last season, and he showed why he is such an asset to the team. I'm sure the Arsenal fans would get less panic attacks with him around this term.
Laurent Koscielny - 5.5
Not the best of performance from Koscielny, letting black shirts past him like he wasn't there. He might just be the weakest link in the Arsenal defence if he doesn't improve.
Kieran Gibbs (45' off) - 6.5
Looked more interested in going forward than staying at left back. Taken off at half time due to a hamstring injury, leaving a gaping hole at Arsenal's left back position.
Alex Song - 7
Covered well for the centre backs and put in a few crucial blocks. Song also won most of the 50-50 battles in midfield.
Aaron Ramsey - 7.5
Drifted in and out of the match, but showed glimpses of his true potential, dictating play and having the vision to pick a pass.
Theo Walcott - 8
Gave Arsenal an early goal after directing the ball past a helpless Handanovic from a Ramsey cross. All the best chances for the Gunners fell to this man, but he just could not apply the finish.
Gervinho - 6
Did a lot of running on and off the ball, but did not trouble the Udinese defence at all. Probably need more time to gel with his new teammates and gain some match confidence.
Tomas Rosicky (72' off) - 5
Had a quiet game, with just a few tame efforts which were not even on target. Sad to say, he is nothing like the player he was at Borussia Dortmund.
Mehdi Benatia - 7
Would have been familiar Chamakh's style of play and rendered his fellow countryman useless. Forced Arsenal to play the short pass instead of kicking it long to a subdued Chamakh.
