bron Rabat - Morocco announced on Monday the discovery of two natural gas reserves in the Tangiers-Larache block off the Atlantic coast.
The two reserves were found in the Anchois-1 well and are the culmination of a drilling program conducted by Repsol YPF and Spanish utility Gas Natural (Spain), and Dana Petroleum (UK), the state-run hydrocarbon office (ONHYM) said in a statement.
ONHYM and partner companies decided to suspend operations and further tests at the reserves in order not to undermine the findings, ONHYM added.
The office said additional technical and economic studies are to be conducted in the coming six months for a more accurate and comprehensive estimation of these two reserves.
Spanish oil firm Repsol YPF (REP.MC) leads the consortium with a 36 percent stake, followed by Spanish utility Gas Natural (GAS.MC) with 24 percent and Morocco's ONHYM with 25 percent.
Three natural gas wells were discovered a few weeks ago at the northern region of Gharb.
