Iran rejects reports on Morocco’s severing ties with Iran
Tehran, March 7, IRNA – Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham rejected on Saturday some recent reports on severing of Morocco’s diplomatic ties with Iran.
Certain Western media reported on Friday that Morocco has cut off diplomatic relations with Iran accusing the latter of trying to spread Shia Islam in the Sunni Arab kingdom.
“There is no problem between Iran and the world of Islam due to the Islamic ideological issues,” Elham told reporters.
He stressed that those “unrealistic” issues have been raised in line with the policy of sowing discord among Muslim states.
“Such issues are raised by some who are against promotion of cordial relations among Muslim states which is a growing trend in the region and the whole world,” said the spokesman.
He added, “ill-wishers are to damage unity of the Islamic world by creating sectarian and factional disputes.”
Elham referred to those efforts as making “malicious intrigues” among members of the Islamic world.
Stressing that reports on cutting off of Rabat's diplomatic ties with Tehran “cannot be confirmed,” the spokesman added, “The government of Morocco is unlikely to take such positions.”

Foreign Ministry refutes Morocco’s allegations as baseless
Tehran, March 7, IRNA - Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday to strongly refute the "baseless allegations" made by Morocco on Iran’s alleged interference in the country’s internal affairs.
In the statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed astonishment at the baseless accusations levelled by Morocco.
Regretfully, simultaneous with the 4th International Conference for Support of Palestine, the Model of Resistance, and Gaza, the Victim of War Crimes held in Tehran with participation of parliamentarians and officials from Islamic and Arab countries in Tehran, Morocco issued a statement to announce its severence of diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, said the statement.
Iran believes that under the current sensitive situation when Islamic nations are in dire need of unity and solidarity, the priority should be given to backing the Palestinian people and the recent move would harm unity of the Muslim world, said the statement.
The statement underlines that these allegations made by Morocco on Iran’s alleged interference in its internal affairs are totally baseless.
The Islamic Republic of Iran in the past 30 years has always tried to promote unity among Islamic nations and avoided making any rift and discord among themselves, said the statement.
Iran believes that ties between countries is a two way road and all should be vigilant towards plots being hatched by the enemies of Islam mainly the Zionists who have been humiliated by recent victories of people in Gaza, said the statement.

Morocco severs relations with Iran
"The Kingdom of Morocco has decided to break its diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran beginning this Friday," the ministry said.
Moroccan local media has repeatedly accused Iran of proselytising in recent years, claims rejected by the Iranian ambassador.
The controversy was fuelled recently by comments attributed to an adviser of Iran's supreme leader, which questioned the sovereignty of Bahrain, a Gulf Arab state ruled by Sunnis, but with a majority Shia population.
Morocco, however, has no official Shia population, with 99 per cent of the country being Sunni Muslim, and the rest either Jews or Christians.
Sunni scholars in Morocco have denounced what they say is an effort to convert people to Shia Islam, arguing that such a practice could ultimately lead to sectarian strife similar to that witnessed in Iraq after the US-led invasion in 2003.
