Benfica Enquire About Drenthe
Benfica are understood to be keen on taking Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe to Estádio da Luz.
According to news daily Record, Benfica have now turned their attention to the arrival of a left-sided winger after signing Pablo Aimar for the centre of the midfield.
And Drenthe, who can play as a full-back and as a winger, seems to top the list of possible targets drawn up by coach Quique Flores.
The Holland under-21 international joined Real Madrid from Feyenoord nearly a year ago for a fee of €14 million but did not experience much football during his first season at Santiago Bernabéu.
He will face strong competition from Marcelo and Gabriel Heinze for a starting role next term and is reportedly considering his options as he looks to find regular first-team action.
Benfica have reportedly enquired Real Madrid about the availability of Drenthe and are considering making a loan offer for the 21-year-old star, who was voted as the best player of the 2007 Euro Under-21 Championship.
Nonetheless, the Eagles will have to fend off interest from Juventus and Roma, two clubs that have been linked with interest in the player.
