Het gaat tussen twee oud commando's, tussen Ehud Barak en Ami Ayalon.

Een exit-poll zegt dat Barak voor staat en een andere exit-poll zegt dat Ayalon voor staat.

Preliminary results of the Labor Party primary on Monday showed Ami Ayalon ahead in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the kibbutzim, former prime minister Ehud Barak was leading the race in Dimona, Holon and the Druze village Beit Jan, and current party chairman and Defense Minister Amir Peretz was in the lead in Lod, Bat Yam and Eilat.

Barak's and Ayalon's headquarters received the preliminary results which declared Ayalon in the lead in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv. In Jerusalem, Ayalon is leading so far with 804 votes, as opposed to 699 for Barak. In Tel Aviv so far 1,858 have been counted in favor of Ayalon, as opposed to 1,096 for Barak. Ayalon is leading by a large margin in Ma'agan, his hometown kibbutz. After 60 percent of the votes were counted, Ayalon had received 44 percent of the kibbutzim vote. Barak received 42 percent of the kibbutzim vote, Pines got 8 percent and Peretz got 5 percent.

In Dimona, a city which was expected to support Peretz, Barak has so far received the majority of the votes - 348, as opposed to 246 for Perez and 60 for Ayalon. Barak is also leading in the Druze village of Beit Jan with 298 votes as opposed to 142 for Peretz and 105 for Ayalon. In Holon Barak is leading by a small margin of approximately 25 votes so far.


In Lod, Peretz has so far achieved a landslide victory with 365 votes, as opposed to Barak's 42 votes and Ayalon's 48. Peretz is also leading in Bat Yam with 400 votes, as opposed to 320 for Barak and 215 for Ayalon. In Eilat Peretz is leading with some 90 votes, only a few votes more than Ayalon with 80, and Barak with 60.

In Ramle a tie emerged between Ayalon and Barak. In Tamra Ayalon, Barak and Peretz all received around 100 votes each, and in Tiberias, Barak and Ayalon got approximately 90 votes each. Peretz came out in the lead in Eilat with 89 votes as opposed to Ayalon's 81 votes and Barak's mere 63 votes.

Exit polls by two of Israel's major television channels predicted different outcomes in the Labor Party leadership primary Monday, with Channel 1 giving Barak a narrow lead over main rival Ayalon, and Channel 2 saying that Ayalon had forged far ahead of Barak.

The exit poll sponsored by Channel 1 television gave Barak 38 percent of the vote and Ayalon 36 percent. Trailing far behind them are current party leader Peretz, with 17 percent, Ophir Pines-Paz with 7 percent and Danny Yatom with 2 percent.

Channel 2 television's exit poll gave Ayalon the lead with 39 percent, Barak got 33 percent, Peretz recieved 19 percent, Pines-Paz made out with 7 percent and Yatom got 2 percent.
