Former high official gets 6 added years at appellate court
Casablanca, Feb. 24 - Former president of Casablanca urban commune, Abdelmoughit Slimani had, here Friday, his sentence increased to 16 years at the appellate court of Casablanca.
Slimani, who was originally sentenced to a ten-year prison term in April 2006, was also condemned to pay a MAD 50,000 (around USD5.500) fine, in addition to the confiscation of his properties and the restitution of government funds extorted from the construction of Oulad Ziane Fouarat housing project.
The court also increased the sentences handed down against four defendants to 10 years in jail, while it maintained the initial prison terms (ranging from 2 to 7 years) for the others.
Abdelmoughit Slimani and 16 other defendants were sued for embezzlement of public funds, forgery of official documents, corruption and abuse of power.
