The injured – Hafiz Waris’s close relatives –Noor Elahi, Shabbir Ahmed, Muhammad Rafiq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Altaf Ahmed have been admitted to hospital. More than 100 villagers staged a demonstration on Friday against the police for not arresting the village feudal lord who is said to be very influential in the area. Bahawalpur District Police Officer Arif Nawaz said, “We have registered a murder case against the attackers.” Eye witnesses Rana Nawaz, Nazir Ahmed, Ghulam Mustafa and Muhammad Rafiq told reporters that Manzoor’s pet dog was trying to catch Mai’s hen, but she saved her hen by throwing a stone at the dog. This infuriated Manzoor and he attacked Mai’s home, along with half a dozen accomplices armed with hatchets and batons.
