Rumsfeld moet ons niet afdreigen

Waar komt hij zich feitelijk mee bemoeien? Die vraag flitste door mijn hoofd toen ik de Amerikaanse minister van Defensie Donald Rumsfeld bezig hoorde over de NAVO. Hij poogde België eventjes buitenspel te zetten met serieuze dreigementen. Of de NAVO-zetel al dan niet in Brussel blijft, beslist hij toch niet alleen zeker. Ook de andere lidstaten hebben een stem in het kapittel.
Wat me vooral heeft gestoord, was de stijl van de heer Rumsfeld. Ik zat hem met stijgende verbazing aan te kijken. De vertegenwoordiger van de Verenigde Staten die alweer iedereen eventjes de les komt spellen. De VS willen dat België de genocidewet intrekt omdat die niet in hun kraam past. Het verwondert mij eigenlijk niet, ze houden er nog 'afwijkende' meningen op na. Hebben ze bijvoorbeeld het klimaatverdrag van Kyoto ondertekend? Hoe zit het met hún biologische en chemische wapens? Hoe zit het met hún kernarsenaal? Niemand mag dergelijke wapens bezitten, buiten Amerika. Neen, de wijze waarop die man aan het woord kwam, is helemaal mijn stijl niet. En zijn dreigement om maar beter in het gareel te lopen of er zal wat zwaaien, hoeven wij niet zomaar te pikken. Volgens hem ging het niet om een dreigement. Hij wilde enkel het probleem aankaarten!? Voor zover ik het als leek kan volgen en inschatten, neemt de internationale politiek vreemde wendingen. Niet echt positief, vind ik. De wijze waarop George W Bush de wereld wil besturen, strookt niet steeds met mijn gevoel van rechtvaardigheid.

Je moet het anders zien, Rumsfeld komt uit een land dat aangevallen is, en mocht je in zijn schoenen staan dan zou je ook gepikeerd zijn dat andere landen geen pogingen doen om wereld vrede te bereiken en dat weet ik hoeveel mensen wellicht nog niet kunnen sterven doordat een gek zijn handen krijgt in een gevaarlijke bom. Je weet volgens mij toch ook wel dat de oorlog in Irak ten eerste is gevoerd vanwege massavernietigingswapens .....toch.

Waar zijn die dan......

Dat Saddam opgehoepeld is, is het enigste voordeel geweest van die oorlog.

Maar of Irak een democratie gaat worden bepaalt alleen de bevolking van Irak en niet een andere natie, lijkt mij.

Rumsfeld Declares His Penis a Weapon of Mass Creation

In a startling announcement today, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declared his penis a "weapon of mass creation," adding that he hopes his remarks will take the focus off the negativity surrounding the Bush administration's inability to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

"I hope I am not being to forthcoming in saying this," Rumsfeld told a shocked audience at a meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution, "But my penis has long been known for bringing joy to this world. I would actually classify it as a weapon of mass creation."

A hushed audience, comprised of mostly women, burst into applause in an unadulterated show of affection for Rumsfeld. Many in the crowd admitted they wanted to take their minds off of the "destruction" theme that has dominated world events, but didn't know where to focus their attention. Now they do.

"I think that Secretary Rumsfeld brought clarity to an issue that has troubled many of us," said one attendee at the function. "I feel better already."

"Listen, I've been part of every war this country has fought since World War II," Rumsfeld said. "I know war. I make war. And now I'm here to tell you that there is an alternative. It is my hope that my penis will help light the way towards peace and prosperity."

The Defense Department refused comment. An unidentified senior official did say that Rumsfeld's feelings regarding his penis are nothing new, but that this is the first time he has made a public declaration regarding it.
