Tehran, May 7, IRNA Iran-Iraq-Relations Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Majid Abbas al-Shiekh said here Sunday that Baghdad calls for the best possible consolidated ties with Tehran. He made the remarks in his meeting with members of Iran-Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group. Iraqi officials are determined to further broaden and bolster all-out ties with Tehran, he pointed out. Highlighting the recent developments in Iraq, he said the Iraqi people are now being targeted by terrorists and advocates of the former regime and every day hundreds of innocent civilians are victimized. The will of the Iraqi nation is much stronger than that of the terrorists, he said adding that the Iraqi people will safeguard their freedom and motherland with their blood. Head of Iran-Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group Ali Riyadh, for his part, reviewed avenues for expansion of mutual parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and said with the new Iraqi government and parliament assuming power, the two countries will benefit from very extensive capabilities to witness further expansion of brotherly ties between the two nations. Highlighting the significant status of Islam and religious shrines in Iraq, he said these would lead to consolidation of ties between the two nations. Referring to current political development and significant role of Ulema in Iraq, he said throughout history the Ulema have always safeguarded the rights of the Iraqi people as well as the country's unity and solidarity.
