The organisers said that the aim of this march was to make the public opinion aware of the problematic of the Palestinian cause and to draw attention to “the silence of the Arab world” regarding the massive attacks of the Israeli army on the Palestinian territories. The participants also denounced the Israeli policy of destruction, kidnapping and extermination. Many political and trade unions as well as representatives of women associations and human rights' organisations participated in the march. The organisers also announced that a sit-in will take place Thursday before the American Consulate in Casablanca to protest against the Israeli assaults on the Palestinian lands and to demand the liberation of Ahmed Saadat as well as all the Arab and Palestinian prisoners. Earlier, Some 100 Moroccan members of political parties and human right activists staged on March 3 a demonstration in Rabat to denounce the Israeli raid on the Palestinian West Bank prison and the kidnapping of six Palestinian militants. The Israeli defense services launched a military operation against the Palestinian prison of the town of Jericho after Mahmoud Abbas declared he would free Saadat. The Israeli army laid a 10-hour siege on the prison, during which they launched tank shells and helicopter rockets, destroying much of the building. Saadat and four members of the FPL were incarcerated in the prison since 2002 under the supervision of British-American monitors. London and Washington withdrew their monitors from Jericho just before the Israeli attack for security reasons, according to British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. Among the wanted men, five militants, including Saadat, are accused of being behind the assassination five years ago of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi. The men had received a freedom promise from Hamas, after their January 25 victory. Ahmed Saadat had participated in the elections from prison and won a seat. http://www.moroccotimes.com/Paper/images/20060315_B_soufiani.jpg
