Industrial relations with Morocco

(Infodefensa.com) Madrid - In the general field of cooperation between Spain and Morocco is increasingly close. Our neighbor is a developing market which offers great opportunities for Spanish companies. With average growth of around 4% of GDP, the Moroccan economy has experienced remarkable progress in this century nearly doubling its GDP since 2000 currently contributes 5% of the overall GDP of the African continent and 35% of the countries of the Maghreb .

In the commercial sphere Spain is the leading supplier, providing 13% of total imports from Morocco our companies, for an amount of 6,000 million euros in 2013 Meanwhile, 16% of Moroccan exports are bound for Spain.

In defense the bilateral cooperation agreement between Spain and Morocco , in force since 1989, has led to a major activity of cooperation between the two armed forces. exchanges for staff training, conducting exercises or the most recent cooperation on support emergency and disaster situations have allowed a fluid contact between the armies of both countries. However, the Spanish defense industry's presence in our neighbor is poor, compared to both trade relations in the general area, as developed in the field of military cooperation.

Since a decade ago, the Royal Armed Forces have undertaken significant modernization in cooperation mainly with the United States and France . The defense budget has tripled, now hovering around 4,000 million dollars, allowing almost double the investments by member of the armed forces, 200,000 troops, which have risen from $ 9,000 in 2000 to overcome 16,000 in 2010, according to the World Military Expenditures and Arms Transfers .

Cooperation with the United States enabled the renewal of the battleship park providing 200 car M1 Abrams , surplus US Army through a contract signed in 2012, worth about 800 million euros, which General Dynamics It has also supplied ammunition and communications equipment, and supplies that comes with 60 pieces of artillery M109A5 , also American surplus. The Moroccan Air Force through cooperative agreements with the USAF has received 24 F16 in a deal valued at 2,000 million dollars in 2007 initiated operation.

Cooperation with France has also been particularly close. Morocco exports account for 10% of total exports of defense equipment from our northern neighbor. Within this framework of cooperation have made significant projects such as the provision of a system RPAS -procedente surplus program SIDM ( Système de Drone MALE Intérimaire ) that ADS and IAI Industrial- have acted as partners, to modernize fleet Puma helicopters began in 2007 of about 2,000 million euros, or entry into service in February this year, a FREMM frigate, the Mohamed VI , which has led to close to 500 million euros investment and was performed in the framework of the French national program for the Marine Nationale .

The renovation of the Royal Moroccan Navy has made not only in the French bilateral level but seeking industrial partners, like the Dutch Damen has delivered three frigates SIGMA , or contacts with Russia's Rosoboronexport for obtaining class submarines Amur . These new ships have been accompanied by the modernization of infrastructure such as the case of the naval base Alcazarseguer .

The role of Spanish industry in this ambitious renovation and modernization has limited the supply of radar stations, management systems, air traffic or vehicles. Behind this modest role of our defense industry are the critical voices that some sectors of our country are affecting bilateral relations in this field, forgetting that Morocco and Spain face common security interests.

Our experience in building a defense industrial base may well serve as a model for an ally and friend that we should strengthen cooperation in this area in a manner equivalent to what we have in other sectors.

U.S. calls on Muslim allies Turkey and Morocco to train Libya’s ‘weak’ military

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials said the Obama administration has reached out to Muslim allies
within and outside NATO to help rebuild Libya’s military.
The officials cited Morocco and Turkey, the latter which recently completed a training course for Libyan
soldiers.

“The Libyan institutions across the board are very, very weak after the reign of Gadhafi,” U.S. Africa Command chief Gen. David Rodriguez said.
In a briefing on April 8, Rodriguez said the United States was involved in two missions meant to train up to 20,000 Libyans. One was identified as a multi-national program that included Turkey.
“Two of those countries have started training, the Turks and the Italians,” Rodriguez said. “And the first Turkish force trained has just returned to Libya, but it’s too soon to tell how effective they will be.”
Another program involved Morocco. Officials said Morocco was part of a NATO effort stuck amid Libya’s failure to finance the training project.

“Between the four European partners, the U.S. and the Moroccans, they’ve committed to train up to 20,000 people in that force,” Rodriguez said. “And the U.S. right now is waiting on money coming from the Libyan government to begin to fund the training in Bulgaria.”
Officials said NATO could not deploy a sizeable force of military trainers in Libya. They said Libya has become a magnet for Al Qaida, which used the country for operations throughout North Africa and Sahel.
“It’s very difficult to move around within Tripoli, much less beyond Tripoli,” Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Amanda Dory said.

Moroccan army down to the streets of Casablanca

Morocco: Moroccan Army Deploy to Streets

Casablanca — In an unprecedented measure in Morocco, army and police personnel were deployed to streets and squares in the kingdom's main cities, and outside vital sites and tourist facilities.

The heavy presence of military and other security forces came as part of the "Hadar" counter-terrorism plan announced last week.

Still, many citizens were stunned on Saturday (November 1st) morning when they saw armed forces in official uniforms outside their homes.

"When I got out of my house in the morning, I was amazed with the spectacle of three soldiers," said Mohamed Moussaoui, a trader from Casablanca.

"They were stationed near the pharmacy beside my house, wearing bullet-proof vests and holding machine guns. Other unarmed policemen were standing not far from the sidewalk," he continued.

"I thought at first that this had something to do with a theft of the nearby bank," he said.

Ahmed El Qorchi, a car park attendant, said he was also surprised with the deployment of armed forces on Friday morning, but he first linked it to the Moroccan trade unions general strike, staged just one day earlier.

"I was very afraid lest demonstrations and riots should take place; they've been talking about the general strike for a whole week in the news," he added.

Although the interior minister last Wednesday presented the "Hadar" strategy during a press conference in Rabat, many citizens weren't expecting to see army and security troops at their front doors.

"We have never seen such a security alert in Morocco since the Years of Lead," Ahmed Filali, a real estate agent, told Magharebia.

"Even following the terrorist bombings in 2003 and 2007, things didn't go that far," he said.

Although security was ramped up, "soldiers weren't deployed to streets with their machine guns as they're doing today," he explained.

"I was initially shocked and startled because we're not accustomed to the spectacle of weapons in this way in the public street," Filali added. "Frankly speaking, I now feel more secure and reassured; their presence will be a strong deterrent to all criminals, offenders and terrorists."

"Every day, we hear and see what they're doing in Syria, Iraq and Libya," he said. "Our country is stable and secure and we have to work hard to protect that blessing against all threats and risks."

While presenting the "Hadar" operation to journalists last week, Interior Minister Mohamed Hassad tried to reassure citizens.

Morocco is not facing any direct, tangible threats in the foreseeable future, he said, but caution and vigilance are necessary in the face of terrorism.

"Hadar" is a pre-emptive, preventive plan and not a measure aimed at dealing with a specific threat, he explained.

Morocco recently dismantled many terrorist cells with ties to the Islamic State (ISIS). However, they were mostly small cells with just one or two members. A number of foreigners from France, Spain, Belgium and Algeria, in addition to some Moroccans who hold other nationalities, were among those detained.

Morocco fears the use of foreigners or Moroccans holding dual citizenships by ISIS as lone wolves to carry out terrorist operations against foreign and local interests in the kingdom.

The country also fears threats posed by the re-deployment of Moroccan fighters who took part in battles in Syria.

Moroccans did not forget that fighters returning from Afghanistan were behind the suicide bombings in Casablanca on May 16th, 2003, in which about 50 were killed.

@ f-16.net

Several F-16 have been deployed recently to fight ISIS in Iraq and Siria. These aircraft are part of a military cooperation agreement with the CCG and a response to the call of it’s Gulf Allies and the US for a more powerful response against the ISIS threat. Recently a contingent of Moroccan Army soldiers has also been deployed in UAE as a response to this threat and more units may be deployed in Saudi Arabia and Bahrein. During these last months multiple armament procurement contracts with the US have been signed for more JDAM bombs and other systems.

With this it’s clear how important and powerful is the involvement of the Moroccan Armed Forces in the fight against the Jihadist rebel group and it’s so-called self-proclamed Islamic State, with it’s commitment as a muslim country, as a counter-terrorist experienced force and as a politically and military leader in it’s region. May God help them all in their fight.

Advanced F-16 C/D block 52+ Royal Moroccan Air Force

Rabat – Moroccan F-16s have reportedly carried out their first air raids against the strongholds of the terrorist organization the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, formerly known as ISIS or ISIL.

According to daily newspaper Akhbar Al Yaoum in its December 10th issue, four F-16 Moroccan fighters have begun bombing locations belonging to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The Moroccan air raids focused on bombing IS positions in the outskirts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad in addition to other parts of the country that were not yet identified.

The newspaper said that Spain is watching closely Morocco’s participation in the US-led coalition to fight against the Islamic State, adding that the move enabled Morocco to have an increased access to advanced technology and weapons manufactured by the United States.

It went on to say that the Spanish press believes that results have shown that the Moroccan F-16s are more advanced than Spanish F-18 fighters which are devoted to the protection of the Canary Islands.

Earlier reports by the NY Times said that the Moroccan F-16 fighters will be targeting fixed sites like military headquarters, communications centers, oil refineries, training camps, troop barracks and weapon depots.

[SIZE=3]SYRIE, UN F16 MAROCAIN ÉVITE DE JUSTESSE UN MISSILE DE DAACH!

Quote:
