Navy IPO in 2012 (International Programs Office)

there's 3 box IMET / FMS / EDA for Morocco for FY11 ... I wonder what EDA
EDA are normally our DLA (Logistics), Army or Air Force sometimes, rarely navy (aside the M60A1)
may be that the M1A1 are marine (if not the newport or SH60 ..)

Abrams M1A1 for Morocco

Citaat:
M1A1-SA For Morocco

Morocco has asked the United States for 200 used M1A1 tanks. Morocco would get the tanks for free, but would pay to have them refurbished and upgraded to the M1A1-SA standard. Morocco would also buy spare parts and technical services. The U.S. has plenty of surplus M1s and the refurbishment and upgrade is done in an American plant that is in danger of closing without such work. Morocco has always been a good friend, just the kind of nation the U.S. is comfortable providing upgraded M1A1 tanks to. Morocco is one of many Arab states that have obtained the M1 tank.
(...)
Morocco will add the 200 M1A1s to an existing force of 200 upgraded Russian T-72s and 300 upgraded American M-60s. Morocco's only potential land threat is from Algeria, which has 320 T-72s and 420 even older Russian tanks. There are 300 newer Russian T-90s on order. Neither country is interested in a war, although there have been tense relations in the past.

AFM ends bilateral aero-naval exercise with Italy

This year’s edition of the aero-naval training exercise ‘Canale’, which is aimed at promoting cooperation and peace in the Mediterranean, drew to a close this morning with a post-exercise conference on-board the Italian Navy ship ‘Foscari’ in the port of Augusta, Italy.
This is the 18th time that the ‘Canale’ bilateral Italo-Maltese aero-naval exercise has taken place. Logistical Preparation and exercise planning started months ago whilst activities at sea began on the 18th of June. This years’ exercise was organised by the Italian Joint Operational Headquarters (IT JOHQ)

Apart from serving to improve bilateral relations between Italy and Malta ‘Canale’ brought together also members of the ‘5+5’ defence Western Mediterranean initiative. (The countries that took active part in this Exercise included Italy , Malta , Algeria, France, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia).

Exercise activities focused on Border Control, maritime search and rescue (SAR), maritime law enforcement (MLE) combined operations, as well as Virtual –Regional Maritime Traffic Centres (V-RMTC).

The exercise activities were planned, organised and coordinated by the Combined Joint Maritime Operation Centre- CJMOC and involved naval and air units from all the afore mentioned countries with the exception of Tunisia and Morocco whose contribution was limited to the participation of personnel.

This year’s exercise saw the active participation of ten maritime platforms and five fixed and rotary wing assets including the latest acquisition of the AFM’s King Air B200 aircraft.

During his speech, Brigadier Martin G. Xuereb, Commander AFM, said that the raison d’etre of Exercise ‘Canale’ continues to be the ‘attainment of peace and stability in our region ’. He added on by saying that ‘this exercise is a testimony to a thriving 5+5 community that remains convinced of the benefits that our military to military ties will bring about.’

All assigned tasks focused on soft security issues rather than the more traditional war fighting skills.

The main aims and objectives of ‘Canale 2012’ included:

• training respective naval and air commands/units in planning of SAR operations;

• the implementation of the Virtual- Regional Maritime Traffic Centre (V-RMTC);

• cooperation through combined use of assets for Maritime Law Enforcement Operations;

• explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) operations at Sea;

• protection of merchant shipping against terrorist activities and Counter-Piracy;

• activation of an Operation Centre with the responsibility of Command and Control of the air and sea assets;

• exercising naval units in a gunnery exercises;

• training units in the deployment of security and inspection teams to conduct Vessel Board and Search operations.

Nexter Systems has unveiled an AMX 10 RCR 6×6 wheeled combat armoured reconnaissance vehicle with modifications aimed to improve the vehicle´s protection and consequently its effectiveness when in operation.

It has been fitted with a lateral and underbelly protection kit against mines and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), seats equipped with harnesses and footrest and two infra-red headlights for night driving. It could also include Nexter Mechanics PG-Guard slat-armour solution, a search and hunting headlight kit, an electronic jammer kit compatible with the vehicle´s LIRE (Leure InfraRougE) decoys launcher and a turret´s ventilation kit from NBC-Sys and as well as new electronics.

According to sources, the company has modified two vehicles according a development contract placed by the French procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l´Armement). These solutions were implemented according lessons learned (RETour d’ EXperience-RETEX in French) with the operation of the 105mm gun armed vehicle in Afghanistan.

In June 2008, the DGA awarded Nexter Systems a research and development contract to integrate a laser warning system or in French DAL (Détecteur d’Alerte Laser) into an AMX 10RCR wheeled armoured reconnaissance car. The vehicle from the French Army´s technical department STAT (Section Technique de Armée de Terre) was seen during PHOENIX II battlefield trial program held between 5 and 27 May 2011 at Mourmelon military camp equipped with LEDS (Land Electronic Defence System) laser warning system from SAAB Avitronics which was coupled to LIRE system.

Both projects could lead to the solutions to be fitted onto the future French Army’s EBRC (Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance et de Combat) armoured combat & reconnaissance vehicles, VBMR (Véhicule Blindé Multi-Rôle) family of multi-purpose armoured vehicles and VBAE (Véhicule Blindé d’Aide à l’Engagement) light armoured vehicles. These upgrades could be also a solution for Royal Moroccan Army´s AMX 10RCs or for possible sales of surplus or new build units.

The company has upgraded 256 French Army´s AMX 10RC vehicles to the AMX 10RCR (Rénov&eacute standard.
